Location

Nerea is situated just outside the historic town of Peñíscola on the beautiful Costa del Azahar. The picturesque town is twenty minutes walk or you can use the local bus service. The old town (pictured) stands on a rocky promontory and is a labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets to explore and pass the time of day.

Old Town

The town has a working fishing harbour providing fresh fish for the many restaurants, serving  tapas and traditional Spanish dishes. A wide variety of shops and local supermarkets cater for those wishing to provide for themselves, but remember the locals still enjoy an afternoon siesta and many shops close, only to re-open for late afternoon and evening trading.

There are two clean sandy beaches. For those who prefer to explore there are many small coves along the more remote areas to the South.

Jet skis and pedaloes can be hired off the harbour beach in high season.

An evening flea market is held at the foot of the castle in the summer months.

Walkers and mountain bikers are also catered for with direct access to the Sierra d’Irta National Conservation Area from Nerea. The walks can be as strenuous or easy going as you like, but it is only the most adventurous who will enjoy the spectacular views of the coast from the highest peaks.

Peñíscola is also famous for celebrating several feasts and religious ceremonies throughout the year culminating in the spectacular Festival held in early September. More information will posted on the festivals as it becomes available.
